Our magazine has been running since 1979, and is now the world's oldest earth mysteries journal! We have attempted to maintain throughout a tradition of free-thinking, approaching archaeology, folklore and the many constituent strands of earth mysteries without a specific axe to grind - no ideologies or beliefs other than a general political radicalism influence our content. In these days of 'new age', pagan, factional and other belief-centred publications, our approach might seem unusual.

As a small-press journal, we rely on word of mouth and on our websites to keep up our subscription base, from which we derive most of the funding that keeps us going. Shop sales have been decreasing in recent years due to two major factors - the growth of retail chains demanding high turnover at high profit and the related closure of small businesses. In any case, casual sales, however welcome, are mostly a bonus; Northern Earth's sustainability depends on its subscriber readership. We have no financial difficulties at present, but a regular income allows us to plan for the future (for things like magazine format and other publications), make changes that will make us more useful to readers, and keep up the websites.

The small presses of the world have long maintained a freethinking tradition independent of prevailing attitudes, and keep alive a vital intellectual undercurrent in whatever society they arise in. This is why we ask our web readers to consider a subscription to Northern Earth, one of a diminishing band of earth mysteries journals. No website can challenge the sound of a journal dropping on your doormat, the feel of information-laden paper in your hand, or the glow of satisfaction that comes from knowing you are supporting a good cause!

Subscribers also qualify for access to our web group to discuss Earth Mystery and related issues with like minded individuals.

Unfortunately, credit card payment arrangements would cost us too much to be viable at present. Therefore, for overseas payments, we can accept cash in US dollars, Japanese yen or major European currencies at the Sterling equivalent of the above rates, but if you choose this option, please note that it is at your own risk - so be sure to disguise the cash content in some way! Japanese readers may also pay in at a Japanese bank account - please contact us for details.

If you are paying by foreign currency cheque, then please add the equivalent of £3 to the above rates to cover UK bank charges, or we will need to deduct bank charges from the value of your subscription.
